This policy describes how LinkUp handles information when you use our daily word-association game at linkup-game.onrender.com.
Information we collect
- Guest identity: LinkUp assigns a random guest identifier in a browser cookie so your game progress can be recognized when you return.
- Game activity: We store your chosen username, puzzle progress, word chains, scores, hints, streaks, achievements, and leaderboard results.
- Technical information: Our hosting provider and service providers may process information such as IP address, browser information, and request logs for service delivery, security, and troubleshooting.
- Time zone: Your browser sends its time-zone setting so the daily challenge can reset at your local midnight.
How we use information
We use this information to run the game, remember your guest profile, evaluate word connections, display scores and leaderboards, protect the service from abuse, and troubleshoot problems.
AI-generated puzzles and judging
LinkUp uses OpenAI to generate puzzles and evaluate submitted word associations. Submitted word chains and relevant puzzle context may be sent to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI's handling of information is governed by its applicable terms and privacy practices.
Storage and service providers
LinkUp uses Supabase for game data storage and Render for website hosting. These providers process data to help operate the game. Public leaderboards may display your chosen username and score. Please avoid putting personal information in your username or word chains.
Cookies and advertising
LinkUp uses a first-party guest cookie to recognize returning players. We are preparing to use Google AdSense for advertising. If advertising is enabled, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads, measure their performance, and, where permitted, personalize advertising. Advertising and consent choices will depend on your location and applicable requirements. For more information, see Google's advertising technologies information.
Adding AdSense verification code does not necessarily mean that ads are already being shown.
Retention and your choices
Game records may be retained to support statistics, daily results, and leaderboards. Clearing browser cookies may prevent LinkUp from recognizing your existing guest profile, but does not necessarily delete previously stored records. To request information about or deletion of your guest data, email snoopbish@gmail.com. We may need information sufficient to identify the correct guest profile before acting on a request.
Children and families
LinkUp is a general-audience word game. We do not intentionally ask players to provide sensitive personal information. If you believe a child has provided personal information that should be removed, please contact us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the game and its services change. The updated version will appear on this page with a revised date.
